Golden Light Ruo Li Oil, 28"x48"

June 2-23, 2013

The California Art Club presents its hallmark exhibition at the USC Fisher Museum of Art for the very first time. This much-anticipated display of contemporary-traditional fine art spotlights nearly 200 never-before-seen works of art of genres ranging from quintessential California landscapes and seascapes to figures and still life.

While the featured paintings and sculpture have been created using time-honored fine art techniques, they are modern in their messages, addressing wide-ranging issues from cultural diversity to environmental preservation and urbanization. The works were selected for inclusion by a jury that was comprised of representatives from prominent southern California museums, and included Kay Allen, Associate Director, USC Fisher Museum of Art; Ed Fosmire, Deputy Director, Laguna Art Museum; Selma Holo, Director, USC Fisher Museum of Art; Amy Scott, Curator of Visual Arts, Autry National Center; and Jean Stern, Executive Director, The Irvine Museum.

The exhibition is unthemed to encourage the artists, who include nationally renowned painters and sculptors, to take risks and raise the bar with their art.

The rich history of the Gold Medal Exhibition pays tribute to early Club members, who believed fellowship and education were important aspects of progressing as artists and building appreciation of traditional art forms. Among these pioneering artists was California Impressionist William Lees Judson, who founded the USC School of Fine Art in 1895.

During the exhibition, the Club will offer a number of events and educational programs that will allow enable art enthusiasts to meet the participating artists and learn more about traditional art forms. These activities will include demonstrations, lectures, artist-led tours and Artists’ Gala Reception on Saturday, June 1. Please visit the “Programs & Events” page for more information.

All of the works are available for acquisition.
