Yesterday, the world lost yet another great soul. Rest in peace, dear Tunga.

We are always proud to be the first institution on the West Coast to showcase Tunga’s work through our 1992 exhibition, “Body to earth: Three artists from Brazil, Cildo Meireles, Mario Cravo Neto, Tunga.”

As Taylor Dafoe states in his Blouin Artinfo article, “Tunga was one considered one of the most important Brazilian artists of his time. Drawing on the tropes of surrealism, Brazilian mythology, and the Freudian concepts of latent dreams and desires, his sculptures, installations, and performance works were known for their macabre mystery and elegant sensuality.” Click here to read more about Tunga.
